Every smog check includes a visual inspection of emissions parts and a functional check, including the check engine light. Newer vehicles get an on-board diagnostics test through the OBD port. Older vehicles, generally 1999 and earlier, get a tailpipe emissions test, often on the dynamometer you'll see in our bay.
